USM's methods of cleaning and silicone coating prevent leakage problems without interupting service.  

First, we clean insulators by gently blasting with pulverized limestone.  This eliminates the need to de-energize and does not damage insulator glazing.  

The remaining non-toxic dust is blown away with high pressure air.  Depending on the type of contamination, coating insulators with a specially-formulated dielectric silicone elastomer is an option.  

Due to it's hydrophobic characteristics and ability to encapsulate contaminants, flash-overs of this nature are prevented.  This option also extends the time between cleanings.
