The Critical One Percent

“THE CRITICAL ONE PERCENT” is the transformer radiator tube surface area that is most important on a transformer. Where is that one percent and why is it so important? That one percent is precisely the area that collects moisture and therefore becomes the point at which the rust on transformer tubes begins. Specifically, rust almost always begins at the point of contact with the stabilizer bars and also on the tube edges.

Unfortunately, spray painting contractors will try to convince you that they have seeing eye nozzles that will fill all of those nooks and crannies with paint and will protect your transformer tubes. A spray painter simply cannot adequately spray those areas that he cannot see even with a special extension nozzle on the end of the spray gun.

Of course, the truth of the matter is, that a spray painter on many configurations of radiator tubes is able to spray only 60 or 70 percent of the total tube surface area. This accounts for the relatively cheap price for spray painting transformers. They simply cannot and do not coat all of the tube surfaces.

The Utility Service & Maintenance designed process of FLOW COATING is the only method for protecting the “The Critical One Percent” of the radiator tubes. Using specifically modified equipment and materials that provide superior corrosion protection, FLOW COATING is like dipping your radiator bank in situ. Keeping "The Critical One Percent" in check will extend the life of your substation.
